Fresh Conversations is a nutrition education program designed to support healthy aging and independence. Each month, Iowans aged 60 and older gather in communities across Iowa to discuss current nutrition and health topics, taste low-cost healthy recipes, and discover new ways to stay active and independent.
Older Iowans who are interested in having fun and transforming their personal health can participate. Fresh Conversations is offered in cooperation with Iowa’s congregate meal program.
The conversations are held on the third Monday of each month: May 20 at the Greenewood congregate meal site in Jefferson.
Each month a new or fresh newsletter focuses on a current health topic and offers practical tips and sensible solutions to everyday problems that get in the way of doing what most people want to do Eat well and Live Well.
The meeting also allows attendees to sample tasty healthy recipes before investing money on the ingredients. Samples are provided during the meetings along with nutrition and cost information. Recently the group tried a cabbage soup and egg and vegetable muffin. They also have an exercise to try that can easily be done at home; many are done in a chair.
